EntomotoxicologyWhen a body has decomposed to a point where there is insufficient blood and tissue to perform a toxicology test, the necrophagous insect species present may be used to determine if any poisons were taken in by the deceased. The poisons are detected using chromatography, and the tests can be performed on adult insects, larvae, larval remnants and pupal shells. It is possible for entomotoxicological analysis to be carried out on a corpse up to several years after the death occurred. (Amendt et al., 2004).
